Asad Mahmood

Asad Mahmood is founder and Chief Executive Officer of Social Investment Managers and Advisors, LLC. (SIMA). Asad is primarily responsible for raising SIMA’s over $400 million portfolio, which generates attractive financial and social returns for investors. SIMA has financed over 175 socially oriented companies in 28 emerging market and least developed countries.

Throughout his three-decade career, Asad has led development of 20 impact investment funds and disbursed over $1.5 Billion. He has created industry-defining, innovative efforts to develop and build the microfinance and impact investing industries. His prior board and advisory

Committee roles include:

  • Enterprise Foundation and the Low Income Investment Fund (LIIF), organizations, which are focused on affordable housing and financing for underserved communities in the United States
  • World Economic Forum – Mainstreaming Impact Investing Working Group
  • Smart Campaign, which promotes client protection standards in microfinance
  • Truelift, which recognizes microfinance institutions and social enterprises reaching low-income and financially excluded populations

Additional roles include:

  • Founding board member of the Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) and the Microfinance Club of New York
  • Advisor to Seal of Excellence for Poverty Outreach and Transformation in Microfinance, an initiative focused on recognizing microfinance institutions serving very low-income clients
  • Advisory Board member of The Rockdale Foundation / Gray Ghost Fund
  • Leadership participant in the 2% Commitment, a network of U.S. foundation leaders encouraging foundations to allocate 2% of their endowments to social investments.
