Dr. Kunle Hassan
Dr. Kunle Hassan is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Eye Foundation Hospital Group, a leading multi-specialist eye care network and training institution in Nigeria. A globally respected vitreoretinal surgeon with more than two decades of post-fellowship experience, he has played a pioneering role in advancing modern ophthalmic practice, specialist training, and publicโprivate partnerships in eye health across Nigeria. He earned his medical degree from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, and completed specialist ophthalmology training in Europe and other regions, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow, the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in the United Kingdom, and the West African College of Surgeons.
Driven by a vision to eliminate avoidable blindness in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa, Dr. Hassan established Eye Foundation Hospital in 1993 as Nigeriaโs first private post-graduate training institution in ophthalmology and its first group practice in eye care. Under his leadership, the Group has grown into an internationally recognized centre of excellence, combining clinical innovation, patient-centred care, community outreach, and sustainable social-enterprise models to expand access to quality eye care. He has also founded platforms including Deseret Community Vision Institute and the Kunle Hassan Eye Foundation Academy, trained scores of eye-care professionals, held leadership roles with regional and global ophthalmology bodies, authored or co-authored more than 100 scientific publications, and received numerous awards for his contributions to eye health and institutional development in Africa.
