However, financial constraints soon emerged as his father struggled to support multiple dependents, including Kevin’s stepmother, who attended university then. Unable to pay the school fees for the second term, Kevin transitioned to a government school. By the third term, a compassionate teacher covered his expenses. That same term, the school introduced bursaries (or grants) for the top two students in each class, marking a pivotal moment in Kevin’s educational journey.

With the guidance of the school deputy, Kevin secured a scholarship to join Cornerstone Leadership Academy Boys. However, his stepmother opposed the decision, influencing his father to withdraw support. Undeterred, Kevin’s mother, grandfather, and O-level teachers rallied to raise the funds needed for his school requirements, enabling him to complete his A-level education.
His university education was made possible through the SIMA Impact Foundation Scholarship, along with the continued support of his mother, grandfather, and friends, who provided for his feeding and accommodation. Reflecting on his journey, Kevin shares, “My academic journey has not been an easy one, but through hard work, determination, and above all, trusting my God with my education, I now hold a degree.”
A Vision for Impact Investing
Kevin’s experiences have shaped his perspective on the importance of impact investing. He explains, “There are many young people from poor backgrounds with big dreams and the ability to create change in their communities, but they lack the resources to equip themselves. Through impact investing, beneficiaries of these programs are able to achieve their dreams and progress in their lives.”
He believes supporting students from Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia is critical for the future of impact investing. These regions, rich in natural resources and brimming with potential, need a well-equipped, educated generation to drive economic growth and social progress.

When reflecting on the personal impact of the SIMA scholarship, Kevin recalls the uncertainty he felt when he first joined the university, worried about how he would afford tuition. At the time, his mother and grandmother supported him, but their resources were stretched thin. “When I got an opportunity with SIMA, my life took on a different course. I didn’t have to worry about tuition anymore,” he says. This relief also allowed his family to focus on other priorities.
Expressing his gratitude, Kevin shares, “I personally want to thank God for SIMA Impact because, through this scholarship, I was able to graduate on time. My academic success wouldn’t have been possible without their support.” He also acknowledges the foundation for providing internship opportunities, further shaping his professional growth.
