University: Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST)

Najma recently graduated from Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) with a Bachelor’s in Accounting and Finance. SIMA Impact Foundation Scholarship had partnered with The Citizens Foundation (TCF) to sponsor Najma’s academic journey.

Her Background

Growing up in a rural area with a Baloch background, significantly influenced Najma’s life. She witnessed her community’s challenges, particularly limited access to education and opportunities, which motivated her to pursue her dreams. “Coming from a culture that values resilience, hospitality, and community, I’ve learned to appreciate the importance of relationships, hard work, and perseverance” she says. Seeing the lack of opportunities for girls and women in her community motivated her to create positive change and empower others. Inspired by strong women like her mother, Najma is now a determined and passionate individual focused on making a meaningful impact.

Impact of the SIMA Scholarship and The Citizens Foundation (TCF)

She describes her assistance from SIMA Impact Foundation and The Citizens Foundation (TCF) as a transformative support in her academic journey. It alleviated her financial challenges, enabling her to focus on her studies without worry. Coming from a financially constrained background, the scholarship provided her with financial stability and opened doors to valuable opportunities, including internships where she worked with experienced professionals. It also boosted her confidence by enhancing her interactions with diverse individuals during her university and internship experiences. Most importantly, the scholarship inspired her to give back to her community and motivate others to pursue their academic goals despite obstacles. She expresses deep gratitude for the support and is committed to making a positive impact in return.

Her Perspective on Impact Investing

Najma shared that her experience at SZABIST University working on a financial inclusion project for rural women deeply shaped her perspective on impact investing. She realized how the lack of access to financial services perpetuates poverty and limits women’s economic empowerment. Witnessing the transformative potential of impact investing in addressing these challenges, she learned that it goes beyond generating returns—it requires understanding community needs and creating positive social and environmental change. “I’m now more committed than ever to give back to the community in whatever ways I can. I also believe that Impact Investing can be a powerful tool for creating positive change, and I’m excited to be a part of it,” she says.

She believes that supporting students from Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia is essential for the future of impact investing due to the immense potential and local expertise these regions offer. “These regions are home to a vast and diverse talent pool, with many students eager to make a positive impact in their communities. By supporting these students, we can tap into this talent pool and develop the next generation of impact investors and social entrepreneurs,” she says. Najma also highlights the importance of initiatives like the SIMA Scholarship, which provide critical support to these students, enabling them to channel their passion for impact investing and contribute to transformative growth in their communities.

Gratitude and Looking Ahead

She shares that receiving the SIMA Scholarship has been a life-changing experience: “This scholarship has been a turning point in my life, transforming my academic and professional aspirations into reality. Receiving this scholarship has not only alleviated financial burdens but has also given me the confidence to pursue my passion. It has empowered me to focus on my studies, engage in extracurricular activities, and build meaningful connections within the community.”

“Personally, this scholarship represents more than just financial support – it symbolizes hope, opportunity, and validation”, she says. It has made her believe in her potential to achieve her goals and make a positive impact in the world. She adds, “Growing up in an area with limited resources, I often doubted my ability to pursue higher education. This scholarship has shown me that my dreams are within reach and that I have the potential to make a meaningful difference in the world.” She is deeply grateful and committed to giving back to her community.

Najma expresses deep gratitude to SIMA Impact Foundation for their support and dedication to empowering students. She highlights the organization’s inspiring commitment to fostering inclusivity and sustainability in impact investing. Najma says, “I encourage SIMA to continue expanding its reach and supporting students from diverse backgrounds. Your efforts have the potential to drive meaningful change and create a ripple effect of positive impact in communities around the world.” She thanks the foundation for believing in her, expresses pride in being part of the SIMA community, and looks forward to staying connected and contributing to their mission in the future.
